Barack Obama on immigration

Barack Obama supports a massive amnesty for illegal aliens, something that will greatly increase legal immigration and will lead to even more illegal immigration. He also supports giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens. He supports the DREAM Act, an anti-American bill that would let illegal aliens take college educations away from U.S. citizens. He marched in support of illegal immigration at the May 1, 2006 event in Chicago; the main organizers of that event have links to the Mexican government. One of the main organizers is even an official with a Mexican political party, the PRD. He also supports Bush's SPP.gov, aka "NAFTA on steroids".

In brief, he's the dream candidate of the Mexican government, crooked businesses, and all the others who currently support massive and/or illegal immigration.

And, he's quite explicit about what he supports, as detailed here. After a pro-enforcement introduction, he says:

But in exchange for accepting those penalties, we must allow undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows and step on a path toward full participation in our society. In fact, I will not support any bill that does not provide this earned path to citizenship for the undocumented population--not just for humanitarian reasons; not just because these people, having broken the law, did so for the best of motives, to try and provide a better life for their children and their grandchildren; but also because this is the only practical way we can get a handle on the population that is within our borders right now.

The last is a false statement. We could greatly reduce the numbers of illegal aliens here now - and keep millions of new people from coming - if we enforced our laws. Obama is part of the problem because he fails to note that. His plan will lead to more illegal aliens, which will eventually lead to yet another amnesty.

His inability to think things through is evidenced by this statement [1]:

Bringing illegal workers out of hiding and replacing the illegal workforce of the future with legal guestworkers who can defend their status should raise wages and working conditions for everyone.

While there were only a limited number of guest worker slots proposed in the Senate bill, expect employers to take advantage of any loophole to drive wages lower. If there are requirements that employers hire Americans first, expect them to do what's necessary to make sure that they can get "guests" instead. Also, "guests" who take actions against their employers make face repurcussions that will affect their future attempts to gain legal permanent resident status. And, since there are only a limited number of "guest" worker slots, if employers can't find the "guests" they need that will probably result in a continued demand for illegal labor.

Note also that he gets a "D" grade for his immigration votes.
