Michael Bloomberg - mayor of New York and possible independent presidential contender - is fighting the demons in his mind:
The mayor also staunchly defended open immigration and free trade. "The things that we have to worry about is this protectionist movement that has reared its head again in this country and the anti-immigration movement, which will destroy our children’s future if we let it go unchecked," the mayor said.
There's no appreciable "anti-immigration movement" in the U.S. There's a general movement against illegal immigration, and a smaller movement against massive immigration of any kind. And, the great majority of American oppose illegal immigration.
However, there are no major political leaders in the U.S. opposed to all immigration and only fringe groups that oppose all forms of it.
His use of the "protectionist movement" should likewise be taken with a huge grain of salt.
In earlier news, Bloomberg supports implanting chips in "guest" workers, and he mentioned greenskeepers as one of the reasons we should have "open immigration". He's scary nuts, but he's got a lot of money too.
